Teuk Thla is a quarter within Khan Sen Sok. Khan Sen Sok is one of Phnom Penh’s administrative districts. Originally Teuk Thla was part of Khan Russey Keo. Khan Sen Sok was established between 2008 and 2009. It included Teuk Thla and two other Sangkats. Sangkat is another word for commune.
The population of Khan Sen Sok was recorded at 120579 in 2008. Over time Khan Sen Sok has grown and changed. In 2010 three communes were added from Kandal Province. Later in 2013 these communes formed Khan Prek Pnov. At the same time Krang Thnong joined Sen Sok.
More changes occurred in 2016. Two new Sangkats were created from existing areas. Ou Baek K’am was formed from Teuk Thla. Kouk Khleang was separated from Phnom Penh Thmei. Today Sen Sok is divided into six Sangkats. These Sangkats contain 47 villages.
Teuk Thla itself has a rich tapestry of village life. You will find villages with unique names like Phsar Teuk Thla. Other villages include Se Pe Se and Borey Muoy Roy Khnang. Chong Thnal Khang Kaeut and Chong Thnal Khang Lech are also here. Finally there is Tuek Thla and Borey Kamakar. Each village contributes to the community.
Besides its administrative function Teuk Thla has other important aspects. Education is a key part of the area. Northbridge International School Cambodia is located in Teuk Thla Commune. The Japanese School of Phnom Penh is also in Sangkat Toek Thla. This school was established in 2015.
The Japanese Supplementary School of Phnom Penh is also located here. It is operated by the Japanese Association of Cambodia. This school was established in 2002. In June 2011 it had 60 students.
Interestingly the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco have been active in Teuk Thla. Since 1983 they have run a Don Bosco Vocation Training Centre for Girls. This shows a commitment to education and empowerment.
Notably Wat Teuk Thla is located within the commune. This pagoda features a contemporary monastery. It includes a grand pagoda and stupa. An older building on the site dates back to the late 1920s.
