Can you imagine a church built by the same architect who designed Milan’s iconic Torre Velasca? Here, before you, stands the Santuario della Madonna della Neve, a beautiful sanctuary built in the late 1950s. It was designed by Vico Magistretti, a renowned architect who blended traditional elements, like wooden beams and terracotta tiles, with a bold, modern style. This combination creates a unique and striking appearance, a testament to Magistretti’s vision. The church was constructed after a community of faithful worshippers expressed their deep devotion to Our Lady of the Snow. The building itself was inspired by the idea of a sacred hut, with its soaring roof, symbolizing a protective embrace. The interior is an interesting fusion of two distinct spaces: the main hall, shaped like an elongated octagon, and a long, narrow presbytery that leads to a sacristy, which is separated by wood panels. The sanctuary is bathed in light that streams through little windows along the ridge pole and a beautiful side window designed by Ennio Morlotti.
