One sister fell ill and died. The other heartbroken followed her sibling into death. They were buried together. Their shared grave became known as the Sister Tomb.
Another version speaks of a different tragedy. One sister died young. Her surviving sister mourned deeply. Unable to bear the grief she died soon after. Their joint burial also gave rise to the Sister Tomb. Both versions emphasize a deep sisterly bond. Their deaths are the heart of the story. Near the Sister Tomb are other tombs. These belong to other members of the Hakka clan. These include the tombs of prominent ancestors. The tombs of He Ren Zhi and his siblings are notable examples. These tombs show the community’s ancestral focus. In the past these Hakka families would visit the tomb for the Qingming Festival.
Sadly the Sister Tomb’s original structure was damaged. It was later moved and rebuilt. The relocation was due to construction needs. The new tomb is a modern structure. However it is still a place of remembrance. The Hakka people still visit to pay their respects. It’s now a protected cultural site.
