Providence Baptist Church

Have you ever wondered about the journey of a church? Providence Baptist Church is a story of faith, growth, and community. Founded in 1883, the church began as Brownsville Baptist Church, named after the South Atlanta neighborhood of the time. It later became South Atlanta Baptist Church and finally Providence Baptist Church, a name suggested by Deacon C.W. Holland. Standing tall here, the church has witnessed the changing face of Atlanta. It moved from Maury Avenue and Lansing Street to 61 Bisbee Avenue, then to its present location on Hawthorne Avenue in College Park. The church has seen a number of dedicated pastors, including Rev. Hardy Curry, Rev. H.W. White, and Rev. Warren G. Parsons, Sr. Since 1985, Rev. Charles E. Nesbitt, Jr. has led the church, fostering growth and community outreach. Under Rev. Nesbitt’s leadership, Providence expanded its reach beyond its walls, participating in various community initiatives. This includes the adoption of the College Park Health Care Center and hosting the annual Community Fall Festival. Providence Baptist Church is more than just a building.
