Like a swan, the Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Art Center graces the Pearl River. It stands as a testament to Guangzhou’s rich cultural heritage. This new landmark beckons us to explore its artistic treasures.

The Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Art Center officially opened on April 28. It will be open to the public from May 1. This “three-in-one” project merges three significant cultural institutions. It includes the Guangdong Museum of Art. It also includes the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center. Finally, it features the Guangdong Literature Hall.

He Jingtang designed the Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Art Center. He is an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering. His team at the South China University of Technology contributed as well. The design evokes a grand white ship ready to set sail. It embodies Guangzhou’s artistic allure.

Rising 78.5 meters high, the Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Art Center has 11 floors above ground. It also has two underground floors. Its location at the Pearl River’s convergence is strategic. It sits directly across from Shamian Island.

The Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Art Center covers a vast area. It has approximately 145,000 square meters. Over 40,000 square meters is dedicated to exhibition space. There is also a shared public area of 35,000 square meters.

The exterior is clad in customized glazed ceramic plates and glass. This is an architectural first for Guangzhou. The ceramic acts as a heat insulator. It reduces the building’s internal temperature. Special lights create fantastic lighting effects at night.

Inside, natural marble adorns ceilings, walls, and floors. This creates a sense of harmony throughout the spaces. A long atrium connects the three main buildings. It offers stunning views of the Pearl River. Visitors can enjoy the scenery from the waterfront terrace. Landmarks like Shamian Park are visible.

The Guangdong Art Museum is housed here. Its exhibition area spans 19,000 square meters. It is almost twice the size of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The museum displays over 900 works by more than 700 artists. These artists hail from both domestic and overseas locations. Visitors can see works by Qi Baishi and Lin Fengmian. There are also pieces from the Lingnan School.

The Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is also located here. It showcases national and provincial-level heritage projects. Visitors can witness the craftsmanship of Chaozhou woodcarving. Cantonese porcelain is also on display. Traditional dragon boats are featured.

The Guangdong Literature Museum takes visitors on a literary journey. It spans over 2,000 years. The museum displays over 1,300 artifacts. These include rare manuscripts and vintage photographs.

The Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Art Center is more than just a building. It is a cultural hub. It enriches Guangzhou’s landscape. It promotes the Lingnan culture. It also fosters exchange between Chinese and foreign civilizations. So come and immerse yourself in the art. Appreciate the heritage. Experience the cultural tapestry.
