How does a church keep going when its building is gone? We’re standing here at the Paradise Seventh-Day Adventist Church, or at least where it once stood. On November 8, 2018, the Camp Fire, a monstrous wildfire, ripped through Paradise, leaving devastation in its wake. The Paradise Seventh-Day Adventist Church, a beacon of faith in the community since 1908, was tragically destroyed. But the church, like the town it served, was not defined by bricks and mortar. It was defined by its people, their faith, and their unwavering commitment to one another. Since that devastating fire, the congregation has displayed amazing resilience. They’ve worshipped in makeshift locations – under the open sky, in borrowed spaces, even joining forces with the Chico Adventist Church for a time. Their spirit, however, never wavered. The Paradise Seventh-Day Adventist Church, though physically absent, continued to be a source of support and hope for its community throughout the long, arduous process of rebuilding. Today, they gather on their church campus, a testament to their enduring faith and a symbol of hope for the future.

“Dust you are and to dust you shall return.” These words echo in El paraíso de Adán y Eva. This
