The Muğla Ulu Camii is that place, a testament to the history of this region, standing tall amid the bustling streets of Muğla. Founded by Ibrahim Bey, the Sultan of Menteşe, in 1334, this mosque has graced the city of Muğla for centuries, its minaret piercing the sky as a beacon of faith. Though the inscription on the mosque’s gate reads, “I am the son of Orhan, Ibrahim Bey. I have built this Masjid in the name of giving me a mansion in heaven…”, the mosque’s original glory was lost to a fire in the past century. Despite the devastation, a generous family in Muğla devoted themselves to restoring the mosque, with Haji Nazife Hanım playing a key role in its revival. Although the fire sadly wiped out many of the original artistic details, the Ulu Camii still stands as a symbol of resilience, a testament to the commitment of those who believe in its enduring power.
