Following a South American Eucharistic Congress held in Cali, the charming chapel known as “El Templete” became a cherished landmark. Initially under the care of Spanish Carmelite friars, it eventually transformed into the parish church you see today. The Iglesia del Santisimo Sacramento El Templete still thrives under Carmelite guidance. This vibrant community ensures the church remains a lively hub of activity. The original “El Templete” chapel was overseen by three Carmelite friars: Father Serapio, Father Samuel, and Father Manuel José. The current church is known for its spacious and beautiful interior. A striking image of the Virgin del Carmen, brought from Spain by the early Carmelite fathers, graces the altar. Following the Vatican II council, the images of saints were removed, and the altar now features a prominent Christ figure and the tabernacle.
