How many stories could these walls tell? We’re standing before Chùa Ông Bổn also known as Nhi Phu Temple. It is a sacred Chinese temple. The temple is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

Since then Chùa Ông Bổn has undergone renovations. These took place in 1875, 1901 and 1990. Yet the temple has preserved its ancient architectural features. It reflects the heritage of the Chinese people.

The temple grounds cover about 2500 square meters. The square-shaped layout features four rows of houses. These surround a central courtyard. The building resembles a traditional house. It has wooden frames tiled roofs and brick walls. The wooden frames display intricate carvings of lotus flowers. They are painted in a vibrant red. The roof is covered with curved tiles. Colorful ceramic figures embellish the roof. These depict fish apricots orchids bamboo dragons and phoenixes.

Inside Chùa Ông Bổn the interior is simple. However it is still solemn. The main hall houses the altar of Ông Bổn. Ông Bổn also known as Phuc Duc Chinh Than is positioned at the center. He is revered for safeguarding the land and its people. On the sides are spaces for worshiping other deities. At the rear a shrine is devoted to the Jade Emperor the Buddha and the Bodhisattva.
