“Seventeen.” That was the school’s first name. Today we are standing before Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School. It is a public elementary school in Toyonaka City Osaka.

Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School has a rich history. The school was established in 1955. It was initially named Toyonaka Municipal No. 17 Elementary School. The school’s name changed to Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School later that year.

The establishment of Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School involved reorganizing the school districts. These districts previously belonged to Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Elementary School. Also to Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Minami Elementary School. Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School became the 17th public elementary school in Toyonaka. It was the third in the Shonai area.

In 1955, the school enrolled students from the first to fourth grades. These students transferred from Shonai and Shonai Minami Elementary Schools. This marked the beginning of Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School.

The school continued to develop its facilities over the years. In 1959, a gymnasium and auditorium were completed. A school flag was newly created in 1960. A swimming pool was built in 1967. The school song was established in 1969. Ceramic art was completed in 1991. A computer room was established in 2000.

As of January 16, 2025, the school has 210 students. This number includes students in special support classes. There are 34 first graders and 29 second graders. There are 32 students in both the third and fourth grades. The fifth grade has 42 students. The sixth grade has 39 students.

Toyonaka Municipal Shonai Nishi Elementary School continues to serve its community. It provides education to children in the area. It is a place of learning and growth.
