Built between 1906 and 1907 the Landhaus Hirschberg is more than just a house. It’s a testament to a bygone era. Architect Max Ravoth’s design is a masterpiece. Notice the monumental style. The colossal pilasters encircling the building are striking. They evoke a sense of classical antiquity. The risaliting outer axes are particularly noteworthy. The southern axis boasts a columned pergola. This served as the main entrance. A triangular gable rising from the mansard roof emphasizes the entrance.
The Landhaus Hirschberg wasn’t alone. It was part of a larger formal garden. This garden originally extended to Koenigsallee 45-45a. The design included a gardener’s house a greenhouse and a covered walkway. These structures are sadly gone. The remaining garden still holds a formal axis. This axis runs through the house’s center. The driveway gate and the former Lindenallee are in the front garden. In the back garden the axis dictates the placement of the stairs. This sophisticated terraced landscape overcomes the significant height difference between the house and the lake. The terraced gardens vary in depth. This reflects the existing pine forest. Irregularly spaced trees break the symmetry. This softens the monumentality. The landscaping on this slope is unique. The current wild state of the garden only hints at its former splendor. It once focused on representation.
Interestingly the property originally included Koenigsallee 45. Only in 1980 was the lake area separated. The interior underwent significant changes in 1932.
