“Where all Jews feel welcome.” That’s the motto of Congregation B’nai Tikvah of San Diego County. This congregation aims to be a place where everyone feels at home. Let’s step inside and explore its story.
Congregation B’nai Tikvah offers more than just a place to pray. It provides a community. It is a place where Jewish youth can connect with their faith. The congregation focuses on creating meaningful experiences for its members.
One of the core programs at Congregation B’nai Tikvah is Hebrew and Jewish education. It offers a free Hebrew School for Jewish youth in San Diego North County. This program ensures that young people have access to Jewish learning. It helps them connect with their heritage.
For teens, B’nai Tikvah offers several engaging programs. After many years with USY, the teens have recently transitioned to BBYO. They connect with BBYO through programming and travel to International Convention with the Rabbi. A robust Madrichim program allows teens to assist in the Religious school, grow their resumes, and spend time with our community. Additionally, parents of B’nai Tikvah teens coordinate learning around vital issues pertaining to Jewish teens in today’s day and age.
Congregation B’nai Tikvah also supports college students. Twice a year, students who register receive holiday packages and letters from the Rabbi. The Rabbi also visits different campuses to support the students. This shows the congregation’s commitment to its members beyond their high school years.
Family Shabbat is another important program. Once a month, the congregation offers a Shabbat-themed experience for school-age students. These experiences range from learning about Judaism in other countries to Disney-themed activities. These events make learning about faith fun and engaging.
Congregation B’nai Tikvah partners with PJ Library. This partnership encourages Jewish literacy at a young age. By offering diverse programs, Congregation B’nai Tikvah ensures there is something for everyone.
B’nei Mitzvah students and their families are very important at Congregation B’nai Tikvah. The tradition celebrates the passage into Jewish religious and ethical adulthood responsibilities. The B’nei Mitzvah service marks the beginning of becoming an adult. Along with family and friends, Beth Israel celebrates the entrance into the adult Jewish community.
The B’nei Mitzvah program encourages students to continue their Jewish education. Beth Israel offers adult education and connections to inform, challenge, and inspire you all the years of your life. As they become adult members of the Jewish community, they are invited to join in their people’s journey. This new chapter is to be fulfilling, rewarding, and enlightening.
Congregation B’nai Tikvah is also a partner of Shabbat San Diego. This organization unites all Jews to enjoy one Shabbat together. Shabbat San Diego is for everyone regardless of affiliation.
Mark Haskell and Allison Bially were on the board of directors as of October 17, 2017. These dedicated leaders helped guide the congregation. Their commitment ensured that Congregation B’nai Tikvah continued to thrive.
Congregation B’nai Tikvah is more than a building. It is a community. It is a place where all Jews feel welcome. Its diverse programs and dedicated leadership make it a vital part of San Diego County.
