It was later renamed Brooks Field to honor Lieutenant Sidney Brooks Jr., a daring San Antonio aviator who tragically lost his life during a solo training flight. The old barracks have been reinvented as apartments, and the oldest wooden airplane hangar, Hangar 9, is now a popular event venue.
