Have you ever wondered about the story behind a building? The Forsthaus Adlgaß, standing proudly on a hill overlooking the town of Inzell, has a history spanning centuries. Imagine stepping back in time – the year is 1308. Documents of the time mention Adlgaß, not under the rule of the Bavarian duke, but as a fiefdom of the St. Zeno monastery in Bad Reichenhall. The building itself is a testament to the passing of time, with its beams bearing the year 1765. Through the centuries, the Forsthaus Adlgaß has witnessed many a change of hands. Throughout the 19th century, various names appear in the records, each marking a new chapter in the building’s story. The year 1854, when Empress Sisi married Franz, saw the property being purchased by the saltworks administration. It was transformed into a forestry house, more than half of the surrounding land given over to planting.
The Adlgaß became one of the few forestry houses with a place for travelers to stop and rest, a tradition that continues to this day. 1965 marked a turning point, the forestry department moved to Inzell and the guesthouse was leased to Thekla and Hans Maier. They ran it until 1999, when Thekla and Hans’ daughters, Ursula Pastötter, Gertrud Maier, and Christine Waldherr, along with their families, took over the reins. The three sisters, aware of the long and rich history of the Forsthaus Adlgaß, strive to preserve its tradition while embracing new ideas. Walking through its doors, you’ll be welcomed by the warmth of history and the promise of delightful moments.
