Who would have thought that this unassuming building once held the keys to the entire municipality? We are standing before the Museu de Históia e Etnologia da Terra da Maia. This building housed the administrative heart of Maia until as late as 1902. After its tenure as the Paços do Concelho, the structure found new life, transforming into a primary school, then the headquarters of the Sport Club Castêlo da Maia. It even served as the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria de Avioso and a post office. Finally, in 1998, its doors closed for a grand transformation – into the Museu de Históia e Etnologia da Terra da Maia that we see today. While the museum officially opened in 2001, the dream began much earlier.
