Didn’t Matthew Flinders discover this spot before he charted Brisbane? That’s right. We’re standing on the soft white sand of Flinders Beach. Flinders Beach is located on North Stradbroke Island. This beautiful beach stretches approximately 3 kilometers. It is a perfect spot for sunbathing. It is also a good place for relaxing.

Flinders Beach faces northeast. It stretches 8 km from Amity Point to Adder Rock headland at Point Lookout. You can drive onto Flinders Beach towards the western end via Flinders Beach Road. The road also leads to a camping area and a car park. There is also beachfront camping at Adder Rock in the east.

The beach has a gentle slope. It is either barless or has a narrow bar, especially to the east. Sand moves from east to west beyond the bar. It forms long sand waves and bars creating a variable outer surf zone. A strong westerly drift runs along the beach during high swells.

Driving on Flinders Beach requires caution. The swamp drains into the ocean at several points. Always check the water depth before driving through. Ensure you have a valid vehicle permit. Be aware of the conditions before driving on the beach. Unusually large ocean swells can create impassable spots.

Swimming at Flinders Beach is generally safe with low to moderate waves. However, Flinders Beach is not patrolled. Cylinder Beach is the safest patrolled swimming location. Be careful of strong westerly drifts and rips. This is especially true when waves exceed 1 meter.

Surfers can enjoy right-handers off Adder Rock headland. This is at the Point Lookout end of Flinders Beach.

Fishing is another popular activity here at Flinders Beach. Anglers can find whiting, tailor, and dart in the holes and gutters. These form due to the bars and sand waves.

Dogs are welcome on Flinders Beach. But remember to keep them on a leash at all times.

Flinders Beach offers more than just relaxation. It offers a dynamic coastal experience. From the soft sand to the variable surf conditions there is something here for everyone. Just remember to respect the environment. Also be aware of the potential hazards. This ensures a safe and enjoyable visit to Flinders Beach.
