Did Nathaniel Bonnell ever imagine his humble dwelling would become a treasured landmark? Here at the Bonnell House Historical Museum, time seems to stand still. The Bonnell House, nestled on East Jersey Street in Elizabeth, New Jersey, whispers tales of centuries past. It stands as the oldest house in Elizabeth. Around 1664, he journeyed to Elizabeth, becoming one of its original settlers and a member of the Elizabeth Associates. The Bonnell House Historical Museum, built between 1670 and 1685, witnessed Nathaniel and his wife Elizabeth raise seven children. The family worked several farms in the surrounding area. One farm, located in what is now Union, New Jersey, was eventually left to their son, also named Nathaniel. The Bonnell House Historical Museum embodies Nathaniel’s carpentry skills.
