Ever imagine gliding across a vast expanse of ice right here in Berlin? This is the Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion. It is more than just an ice rink. It’s a landmark with a rich history.

The Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion opened its doors on November 29 1974. Architect Werner Deyle designed it. Originally, it was known as Eisstadion Wilmersdorf. The stadium quickly became a hub for winter sports.

At the opening competition Olympiasiegerin Monika Pflug and Sprint-Weltmeister Per Bjørang were victorious.

This stadium boasts a large ice surface. It measures 6170 square meters. It also features a 400-meter speed skating track. This track met the Olympic Games requirements back then.

In 1985, the Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion hosted Germany’s first Ice Speed Skating World Cup race. This event marked a significant moment for the sport in Germany. World-class athletes competed here.

Beyond speed skating, the Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion has a history with Eisspeedway. It regularly hosted Eisspeedway events since 1974. The Team World Championship took place here in 1983. The Individual World Championship was here for the first time in 1987. The last race took place in 2023.

In October 2000, the stadium received a new name. It was named after Horst Dohm. He was the former mayor of Wilmersdorf from 1981 to 1996.

The Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion is located on Fritz-Wildung-Straße 9. It is next to the Sommerbad Wilmersdorf and Stadion Wilmersdorf.

For its 50th anniversary the Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion offers two ice stock lanes.

Usually the ice stadium opens in mid-October. But material delivery problems caused delays in the past.

The Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion is not just for professional athletes. It is open to the public. In summer the area is used for inline skating. It’s a place where everyone can enjoy ice sports. The Horst-Dohm-Eisstadion remains a vital part of Berlin’s sporting landscape.
