Stepping into the embrace of faith, we find ourselves before the Bethania Romanian Pentecostal Church. This vibrant community has a captivating story. It speaks of resilience, growth, and unwavering devotion. Bethania Romanian Pentecostal Church isn’t simply a building. It is a testament to the power of shared beliefs and the enduring spirit of the Romanian Pentecostal community in Detroit. The story of Bethania Romanian Pentecostal Church begins with a fire. In 2016, a blaze engulfed a nearby building. An ember drifted, igniting the roof of the then-vacant church. Firefighters battled bravely but couldn’t save the structure. Remarkably, amid the devastation, the church’s historic pipe organ survived. Sadly, it fell victim to metal thieves within a week. The church was subsequently demolished in 2017. However, this is not the end of the Bethania Romanian Pentecostal Church story. The original Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church building that burned down had its own rich history. It was established in 1887 by German Lutherans. It served as a cornerstone of the community for decades. The church relocated in 1940. The old building became home to Everybody’s Universal Tabernacle Church, led by Bishop Theodoshia Hooks, the first woman ordained as a Bishop. This history, while not directly related to the Romanian Pentecostal congregation, speaks to the enduring spirit of faith in this location. While the physical structure may be gone, the spirit of Bethania Romanian Pentecostal Church lives on.
