The Colegio Mayor Antonio de Nebrija isn’t just a residence hall. It’s a living piece of history. Its origins trace back to the Colegio Secular de San Felipe y Santiago in Alcalá de Henares. Founded in 1551. This earlier college was later relocated to Madrid. The Nebrija. As it’s affectionately known. Officially opened on March 7 1951. The official speeches highlighted the college’s long history. Even Francisco Franco attended the inauguration.
More than just rooms and meals. The Colegio Mayor Antonio de Nebrija offers a rich experience. Students from across Spain gather here. They participate in activities. Conferences courses trips and sports are available. From rugby to ping-pong. There’s a library study rooms a cafeteria and even a game room. A sports complex is nearby. The building itself is impressive. Designed as part of the Ciudad Universitaria project. Architects Modesto Lopez Otero and Luis Lacasa Navarro were involved. The Civil War delayed construction. Javier Barroso y Sanchez-Guerra oversaw its completion. The Colegio Mayor Antonio de Nebrija boasts a central building with three floors. Connected wings house students’ rooms. There are three main sections known as Argüelles Moncloa and Kuwait. These names reflect their locations and history. The Kuwait section is currently closed. The college has a hall. An activity room which used to be a chapel. And sports facilities. A bar TV room and study areas are also available. A remodeled dining hall serves meals daily.
