Carrollton Presbyterian Church was formed to serve the growing Presbyterian community in the Carrollton area. The Civil War caused a decline in membership. But the church reorganized in 1884. It incorporated as a Louisiana corporation in 1894. This gave it the right to buy and sell property.

In 1960 Carrollton Presbyterian Church took a bold step. It became one of the few Presbyterian churches in Louisiana to establish a school. This school served the community for many years. It remained open until 1988. Later Stuart Hall School purchased the property. They continue to operate a school at this location. The school is no longer directly affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.

Carrollton Presbyterian Church faced a unique legal challenge. It involved property rights and the Presbyterian Church’s governing structure. The church opted out of certain denominational property rules. This decision led to a dispute with the Presbytery of South Louisiana. The legal battle centered on who controlled Carrollton Presbyterian Church’s property. The courts ultimately sided with Carrollton Presbyterian Church. They affirmed the church’s right to control its assets. This affirmed the local church’s autonomy.
