“Fig Newtons, anyone?” That’s what I imagine the workers at the Kennedy Biscuit Lofts saying daily. Today, the Kennedy Biscuit Lofts stand as unique apartments. But let’s step back in time to when this building was the F.A. Kennedy Steam Bakery.

In 1891, the Fig Newton was born right here. It was named after the nearby town of Newton. The Kennedy Biscuit Company also named other treats after local communities. Shrewsbusy, Harvard, and Beacon Hill were among them. Frank A. Kennedy even canned Boston Baked Beans here first.

The factory was built in 1875. Later, Nabisco bought the bakery. Eventually, the factory closed. But its legacy lives on.

The Kennedy Biscuit Lofts now house 142 unique apartments. Renovations kept historic elements intact. Some apartments even have the original baking ovens. Though residents have exclusive access to the interiors, the courtyard welcomes all. Here, you can see a sweet piece of Cambridge baking history.

The shape, taste, and size of Fig Newtons haven’t changed since 1891. In 1898, Kennedy Biscuits merged to form the National Biscuit Company. We know them today as Nabisco. They make Oreos and other cookies and crackers.

Living here offers unique perks. Expansive ceiling heights and oversized windows remain. Exposed brick walls and columns add character. Modern amenities enhance the living experience. The Kennedy Biscuit Lofts offer on-site laundry and a KidSpace. Storage rooms and bicycle parking are available. Residents also enjoy access to University Park amenities. These include concierge services and a fitness center.

The Kennedy Biscuit Lofts are conveniently located. They are close to Central Square, Harvard Square, and Kendall Square. Many coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores are nearby. Public transportation is easily accessible.

Each apartment is uniquely crafted. They balance historic charm with modern updates. Exposed brick and wood beams add character. Tall industrial windows provide ample light. Modern kitchens feature dishwashers and full-sized refrigerators.

Common areas blend old charm with new conveniences. Brightly lit industrial spaces offer wireless internet. The outdoor courtyard has become a gorgeous landscaped garden. Residents can enjoy a dining room, fitness center, and entertainment room.

Living at the Kennedy Biscuit Lofts offers peace of mind. A 24-hour courtesy patrol ensures safety. Emergency maintenance is available around the clock. A resident concierge service caters to residents’ needs. Plus, the location in the heart of Cambridge is unbeatable.

So, as you stand here, remember the sweet history beneath your feet. The Kennedy Biscuit Lofts aren’t just apartments. They’re a testament to Cambridge’s delicious past.
