Who would have thought a stadium could hold so much history? Here at the Stade des Ormes, the echoes of cheering crowds and pounding feet mingle with tales of renovation and resilience. The Stade des Ormes, inaugurated in September 2004, isn’t just a sports venue. It’s a testament to the community’s dedication to athletics and rugby. This stadium, with its 1,500-seat grandstand, serves as the home ground for OSM Lomme Athlétisme and Lille Rugby Club. The Stade des Ormes boasts a 400-meter, 8-lane track, facilities for pole vaulting, long jump, triple jump, and areas for discus, shot put, hammer, and javelin throws. There’s even a natural grass rugby field. Beyond the impressive facilities, the Stade des Ormes plays a vital role in Lomme’s community life. Local schools use the stadium for sports activities. Associations like SRLD Gymnastique Volontaire, Lomme Natation Triathlon, and Lille Rugby Iris 1924 also call this place home. The stadium has even hosted “Quand Comme Court,” a popular race that moved from the city streets to the Urban Natural Park and the stadium. In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stade des Ormes underwent a significant renovation. The worn-out track surface was replaced with a 13mm thick layer of rubber, covering 9,600 square meters. The long jump runways were refreshed, and the discus throwing area was upgraded to a synthetic surface. Even the corridors and locker rooms received a fresh coat of paint. This €396,000 investment, partly funded by the Department of the Nord, restored the stadium to national standards. The Stade des Ormes stands as a symbol of Lomme’s commitment to sports, community, and the enduring power of renewal. It’s more than just a stadium; it’s a vibrant hub of activity, a training ground for athletes, and a gathering place for the community.
