How about stepping into a place designed for modern healthcare? Here at the New Victoria Hospital, we find more than just medical services. We discover a story of evolution in Glasgow’s healthcare landscape.

The New Victoria Hospital stands in the Langside/Battlefield area. It is in the south-east of Glasgow. This ambulatory care hospital is managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. But its story starts before its 2009 opening.

Imagine the Glasgow Victoria Infirmary. For years, it stood across the road, serving the community. By 2015, it closed after providing care since 1880. The New Victoria Hospital then took over outpatient services. It provided services previously housed at the old Victoria Infirmary.

The New Victoria Hospital emerged from the site of the former Queen’s Park Public School. Construction began in December 2006. Balfour Beatty carried out the work. The cost? A cool £100 million. By early April 2009, the new facility was complete.

This hospital was designed to handle around 400,000 patients annually. Inside, there are 30 single-bed rooms. Each has its own en-suite wet room. There are also 30 rooms with four bays. The hospital has eight operating theaters. Twelve short-stay surgical beds are available.

The New Victoria Hospital also houses advanced technology. It has an MRI scanner and diagnostic services. Specialist services include cardiology, renal dialysis, and gynaecology.

But it’s not just about the medical services. The building itself is remarkable. It received an excellent BREEAM rating. This means it was built with environmental considerations in mind. One feature reduces traffic noise from the surrounding area.

Consider the location. The New Victoria Hospital is easily accessible. It is near Mount Florida train station. Several bus routes serve the area.

For those needing refreshments, there’s an Aroma Cafe in the main atrium. A dining room on Level 2 offers hot food. Nearby Battlefield also has coffee shops and restaurants.

Interestingly, there isn’t a specific orthopaedic department here. Instead, the hospital acts as a spoke. It is connected to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The offices for the National Brachial Plexus Service are located here.

The New Victoria Hospital represents a step forward in healthcare. It combines modern facilities with a focus on patient care. It stands as a testament to Glasgow’s commitment to health and well-being. It is a modern facility built on the foundations of its predecessor.
