The NSG Aplerbecker Wald’s history includes human intervention. A temporary amphibian fence was installed in 1987 along Aplerbecker Waldstraße. It’s maintained yearly during the breeding season. In 2002 the road was permanently closed to through traffic. A tunnel was built to safely guide amphibians under the road. This amphibian-friendly infrastructure underlines the dedication to preserving this unique ecosystem.
