John Jay High School, established in 1967, is a proud part of the Northside Independent School District. Here’s a curious fact: all the high schools in the district are named after US Supreme Court Justices. Now, John Jay High School isn’t all about history and legal precedents. It’s a vibrant learning hub with a dedicated faculty of almost 150 teachers and over 2,100 students. The school buzzes with energy as the John Jay Mustangs, their mascot, charge through various sports, from football to tennis and even a robotics competition. But John Jay High School has seen its share of controversy too. In 2012, it found itself in the national spotlight because of a “Student Locator Project.” Students were required to wear RFID-chipped IDs, sparking a debate about privacy and religious freedom.
