From its humble beginnings in 1981 Calvary Mexican Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith perseverance and growth. Born from a group of believers who sought a different path this church initially met in rented spaces. The Lord’s blessings were evident as the congregation expanded. In 1986 Calvary Mexican Baptist Church found a home on West San Antonio Street. The church experienced a period of transition in the 1980s struggling to maintain a full-time pastor.
However the unwavering faith of its members never wavered. In 1992 a pivotal moment arrived with the appointment of Pastor David Beatty Sr. His leadership steered the church toward remarkable growth. This growth highlighted the need for a larger space. The church’s Christian academy was relocated to Schertz in 1995. This strategic move allowed for independent growth of both the church and the academy. A dramatic revelation guided Pastor Beatty in 1997. God had grand plans for Calvary Mexican Baptist Church. This led to the purchase of farmland on Klein Road.
A temporary mobile home served as a meeting place while the church prepared for its next chapter. After years of prayer and God’s intervention the current building opened its doors in 1999. This achievement was a testament to their collective faith and God’s provision. The 2000s saw continued blessings. The congregation expanded adding two modular buildings in 2006. These buildings housed Calvary Baptist Academy and a Mother’s Day Out program.
The 2010s brought both challenges and triumphs. Pastor Beatty Sr. faced a terminal cancer diagnosis. He continued to pastor with unwavering devotion. Eventually the burden became too much and he announced his retirement. This transition was difficult for the church bringing financial constraints. Pastor Beatty’s son David Beatty Jr stepped in as an interim pastor. In August 2014 Pastor David Beatty Sr. passed away.
Despite this loss the church flourished under the leadership of David Beatty Jr. He was called as the full-time pastor in August 2014. His vision focused on returning to basic church principles. He also aimed to fulfill Christ’s command to spread the Gospel. The church continues to thrive a testament to enduring faith and community spirit. As we stand here today reflect on the incredible journey of Calvary Mexican Baptist Church a beacon of faith hope and love in San Antonio.
