In 1903, a small spark ignited in Stralsund. This spark, a burgeoning Seventh-day Adventist community, soon grew into a flame, establishing a church and reaching over 100 members in the 1920s. This vibrant community, eager to share their faith, spread its light, giving rise to daughter churches across the region. One such beacon landed in Greifswald, the Adventgemeinde Greifswald, now standing here before us at Anklamer Straße 13-14. The Adventgemeinde Greifswald has faced its share of trials. In 1994, the community rejoiced at the dedication of their first church building on Anklamer Straße. This building became a hub, a place for worship, celebrations, youth groups, and the local Pfadfinders. Tragically, this sanctuary was destroyed by arson in 2014, leaving the congregation without a physical home. However, the spirit of the Adventgemeinde remained unbroken. Thanks to the generosity of other churches in Greifswald, especially the Brüdergemeinde, they found temporary spaces for their services. After lengthy negotiations with the insurance company and a patient wait for building permits, reconstruction began in September 2016. The new church, designed by Potsdamer architects Mayer-Winderlich and Martinez, was inaugurated in 2019. The modern structure seats 120 people and boasts flexible spaces that can be divided for smaller gatherings. It even includes an apartment for the caretaker. While the insurance covered a significant portion of the costs, the congregation dedicated themselves to raising the remaining funds, a testament to their faith and resilience. The Adventgemeinde Greifswald is more than just a building. It’s a community, a place where faith thrives and people connect. They offer services every Saturday at 10:00 am, welcoming visitors from near and far. If you’re looking for a place to connect with your spirituality, learn more about the Seventh-day Adventist faith, or simply enjoy the sense of community, the Adventgemeinde Greifswald opens its doors to you.
