Casa Mița Biciclista was built in the early 20th century. The Art Nouveau façade hints at the vibrant life within. Maria, known for her luxurious lifestyle, made this house the center of Bucharest’s social scene. After her death, the house faced a different fate. The communist regime nationalized it, and 16 families lived within its walls until 1989. Then, abandonment. Eventually, the house returned to Maria’s heirs, then sold to a real estate developer. This developer began the process of consolidation and restoration. Finally, it reached the current owner, who entrusted it to a cultural NGO.
Today, Casa Mița Biciclista is a creative hub, hosting cultural and social events, conferences, and exhibitions. The restoration honored the building’s history, blending the old with a contemporary touch. The original intricate ceiling ornaments are highlighted by a darker color, emphasizing their beauty.
