Curious about where courage, confidence, and character meet? Camp Cedar Hill is that place. This isn’t just any summer camp. Camp Cedar Hill is a place steeped in history and brimming with opportunities for young girls.
Camp Cedar Hill started as a 200-acre working farm. The Warren family purchased it in 1854. Cornelia Warren managed the property after her father’s death. She opened it to religious, educational, and social service organizations. People traveled from miles around to visit the farm’s famous maze.
Cornelia Warren, a known philanthropist, focused on educational and social service causes. She lived at Cedar Hill until her death in 1921. Warren’s will stated that the Cedar Hill estate should go to a charitable organization. In 1923, her trustees gifted 75 acres to the Massachusetts Girl Scouts. Helen Storrow helped convert Cedar Hill for Girl Scout use. She chaired the Massachusetts State Camp Committee and provided funds for the project.
Since 1923, Camp Cedar Hill has been a Girl Scout hub. It hosted the first International Girl Scout meeting in 1926. Juliette Gordon Low, the Girl Scouts founder, attended this meeting. Robert Baden-Powell, the Boy Scouts founder, also visited Camp Cedar Hill. For 100 years, girls from all over Eastern Massachusetts have attended Camp Cedar Hill. Even Krista McAuliffe, the astronaut, spent time here.
Today, Camp Cedar Hill welcomes campers from kindergarten through 12th grade. They can participate in archery and swim in two pools. They can boat on the pond, and challenge themselves on the high and low ropes courses. An alpine climbing tower awaits those seeking adventure. Campers enjoy traditional camp activities, like singalongs and crafts, too.
Camp Cedar Hill celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. This milestone marks it as one of the oldest Girl Scout camps in the country. To celebrate, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts hosted events throughout the year. These included “Extreme Gingerbread,” “Night Explorers,” and “Cozy Campers.”
Camp Cedar Hill continues to empower girls. It helps them build courage, confidence, and character. The camp is located near Boston. It offers 75 acres of natural beauty.
