From a humble beginning in the Performing Arts Center of Bishop England High School, Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church has blossomed. This vibrant parish, formally established on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, now boasts a stunning Neo-Gothic church building. The church was dedicated on April 22, 2023, after five years of meticulous planning and three years of dedicated construction. Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church serves the Daniel Island and Cainhoy peninsula community. Its members come from all over the metro Charleston area. Amazingly, the entire cost of the church building was covered upon its dedication. The founding pastor, Father West, proudly announced that there would be no debt or mortgage. This remarkable feat has earned the project several national and regional awards for design and construction excellence. The church stands as a testament to the dedication and generosity of its 3,400 members. They hail from near and far, ranging in age from infants to those over 90. Most members moved to the Charleston area from other parts of the world. Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church offers a traditional Roman Catholic worship experience. The emphasis is on the mystery and gift of the Holy Eucharist. It encourages congregational participation through word and song. The dedication to Christian discipleship is evident in their joyful embrace and sharing of the Gospel.
