Journey with me to the heart of Saudi Arabia. We stand before Khashm Mazalij, a peak seemingly lost in the vast expanse of the desert. Yet, this unassuming landmark plays a crucial role in the nation’s energy narrative. Khashm Mazalij is not just a peak. It is part of a massive oilfield system, intrinsically linked to the Khurais oilfield, one of Saudi Arabia’s, and indeed, the world’s, most significant energy resources. This area, encompassing Khurais, Abu Jifan, and Khashm Mazalij, has been instrumental in boosting Saudi Arabia’s oil production capacity. Imagine the scale. The Khurais field alone stretches 127 km and covers nearly 3,000 square kilometers. Khashm Mazalij, along with Abu Jifan, contributes significantly to this vast oilfield complex. The pipelines that crisscross this landscape carry a precious cargo. Oil extracted from these fields flows through a dedicated pipeline, stretching approximately 250 kilometers, connecting Khashm Mazalij with the Abu Jifan oilfield. This pipeline represents millions of dollars of investment and is a testament to the complex engineering required to extract and transport these vital resources. The Khurais program, including Khashm Mazalij, has added 1.2 million barrels per day of Arabian light crude to Saudi Arabia’s production. It’s a staggering number, reflecting the immense scale of operations here. The Unayzah B/C reservoir, located within Khashm Mazalij itself, further enriches the field’s production. It yields Arabian light oil, accompanied by a substantial flow of natural gas. Khashm Mazalij may appear as a quiet peak in the desert, but it pulses with the rhythm of a global energy giant.
