This imposing structure before you is the Sixth Teaching Building. Also known as the Hexiao Building or the Daling Building it’s a truly remarkable sight. Completed in 2003 it’s the newest and largest teaching building at Tsinghua University.

Designed by the Tsinghua University Architectural Design and Research Institute its imposing scale dwarfs the five previous teaching buildings. Imagine a complex of almost 150 rooms spread across three distinct sections A B and C. Sections A and B form right angles. Section C is a striking quarter-circle shape. The lower floors house classrooms. The upper floors dedicated primarily to research laboratories. This ingenious design maximizes space and light.

Did you notice the five ancient banyan trees carefully preserved within the building’s footprint? They’re a testament to the architects’ commitment to integrating the building with its surroundings. The building’s design also incorporates natural light and ventilation seamlessly. This was a key feature in the award-winning design. The Sixth Teaching Building received the Tenth National Architectural Design Award and the Public Building Excellent Design Award. It also won a 2005 Ministry of Education Award for outstanding architectural design.

The Sixth Teaching Building is more than just a building. It represents a vision. It’s a symbol of Tsinghua University’s commitment to education and research. It’s a fascinating blend of modern architecture and historical preservation. It stands as a powerful testament to innovative design and a harmonious coexistence between nature and progress. The sheer scale of the building is impressive. Its thoughtful design ensures students and researchers have a comfortable and productive environment. This building has changed the face of the campus forever. Let’s move on to our next destination.
