Kasetsart University. A beacon of knowledge. Established in 1943, Kasetsart University stands as Thailand’s largest and oldest agricultural institution. Its roots trace back to the early 20th century. King Chulalongkorn, a visionary leader, recognized the need to strengthen Thailand’s traditional industries like silk production and weaving. He brought in Japanese expertise to train Thai students. This marked the beginning of agricultural education in the country. The initial School of Sericulture, founded in 1904, transitioned into the School of Agriculture in 1906. It later merged with other vocational schools to form the School of the Ministry of Agriculture. This school offered Thailand’s first tertiary-level agriculture courses in 1909. Over time, agricultural education evolved and expanded regionally. Then in 1943, the College of Agriculture was elevated to university status. It became Kasetsart University, a testament to the growing importance of agricultural science. Today, Kasetsart University’s main campus sprawls across 135 hectares in Bangkhen, Bangkok. It has expanded its academic offerings significantly beyond agriculture. It now encompasses diverse fields like life sciences, engineering, social sciences, and humanities. The university’s mascot is the Nontri tree. Nine of these trees were planted in 1963 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. These trees symbolize growth, knowledge, and the enduring legacy of Kasetsart University.
