In 1933, Osaka City established a new institution. It was the Taisho Island Elementary School, the predecessor of what we now know as Osaka Shiritsu Omiya Elementary School. Imagine young children, eager for knowledge, filling its classrooms for the first time. This very ground has witnessed generations of students passing through its halls. In 1934, the school expanded. It added a higher department and became Osaka City Taisho Island Higher Elementary School. The school adapted to the changing times, reflecting Japan’s evolving educational landscape. During World War II, in 1941, it was renamed Osaka City Taisho National School. A difficult period followed, as the student body was evacuated in 1944. They were sent to rural communities for safety during wartime. With the war’s end, a new chapter began. The school returned to Osaka and, in 1947, was renamed Osaka Shiritsu Omiya Elementary School. The school we see today began to take shape. A new school building and auditorium were completed in 1952. This marked a fresh start, a symbol of hope for the future. Years later, in 1994, a gymnasium combined with the lecture hall was added. Omiya Elementary School continues to serve the community. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of learning and the importance of education across generations. As of 2023, the school had 234 students and nine classes from grades one to six, fostering a vibrant learning environment.
