“A school that holds almost 500 students, can you imagine?” the child whispered to their friend, staring wide-eyed at the building. That’s right, we’re standing before the Nagaoka City Nagaoka Dai-San Elementary School, affectionately known by locals as “San-Sho,” or “Naga-San”. Don’t let the simple name fool you; this school, established in April 1967, has a rich history. Located in northern Kyoto, it’s one of the three schools in the area and boasts a spacious campus. In fact, it boasts the sixth largest land area among Kyoto’s public elementary schools and the second largest playground. Imagine the games of tag, the laughter, and the boundless energy echoing across this vast space. Over the years, Nagaoka City Nagaoka Dai-San Elementary School has seen numerous additions. From building expansions in its early years to the introduction of a computer room in 1999 and air conditioners in 2008, it has constantly evolved to provide the best for its students. Today, it stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to education, a place where laughter and learning go hand in hand.
