Reflect on this: a stage where echoes of history meet the vibrant pulse of modern entertainment at The Roman Arenas. These arenas stand as a testament to Bucharest’s rich cultural heritage. They offer a unique space for open-air shows and concerts.

The Roman Arenas are cherished by both Romanians and international artists. They were built to celebrate 18 centuries of Latinity on Dacian land. Also, they honored the Kingdom of Romania under King Carol I. After Carol Park’s grand opening in 1906, the area became a hub for cultural and sports events.

Architect Leonida Negrescu, who contributed to the Romanian Athenaeum, designed the summer theatre. It was dedicated to the Latinity of the Romanian people. The theatre was part of a complex built for the Romanian General Exhibition of 1906. This exhibition marked 40 years of King Carol I’s reign.

In 1966, modernization transformed the amphitheater. The stage was elevated and covered. The grass plot was replaced with concrete. Administrative offices were added behind the stage. The royal loge was enlarged and renovated. A room for film projections was created beneath the terrace. Sadly, insignia and ornaments from the monarchic period were removed.

Today, The Roman Arenas can accommodate between 3000 and 8000 people. The average capacity is 5000. The acoustics are excellent. In winter, the space is covered for thermal insulation. It becomes a tent inside the arena.

Getting here is quite straightforward. If you are arriving by car from Henri Coandă International Airport, take Calea Bucureștilor. Then follow Șoseaua București-Ploiești and Șoseaua Kiseleff. From Victoria Square, take Lascăr Catargiu Blvd to Romană Square. Then follow Ghe. Magheru Blvd, N. Bălcescu Blvd, I.C. Brătianu Blvd, and D. Cantemir Blvd. Turn right on Calea Șerban Vodă.
