Here at Immanuel Church, can you hear the echoes of faith? This church stands as a testament to New York City’s evolving communities. Immanuel Church’s story begins in 1894. Forty-six charter members gathered under Reverend Carl Roth’s guidance. They sought to establish Immanuel Baptist Church.
Immanuel Church started as a mission outreach. The First German Baptist Church wanted to reach the growing German-speaking population. The church officially incorporated on April 15, 1897. By April 1902, it became self-supporting.
For nearly fifty years, Immanuel Church focused on the German-speaking community. The 1940s marked a shift. In 1942, an English Sunday Evening Service began. Regular German services ended in 1980. A Hispanic Bible class started in 1983. Since then, Immanuel has embraced ethnic ministries.
Today, Immanuel Church welcomes people from all nations. Its congregation mirrors the neighborhood’s diverse cultures and languages. The church aims to feel like home, regardless of background.
