Imagine dust devils swirling across plains. Dashiwo stands as a testament to time. This town is on the south side of Fangshan District in Beijing. It is more than just a place on a map. It’s a chapter in China’s story.

Dashiwo’s history is layered. It shifted through different administrative roles. In 1949, it was part of the 3rd District of Fangshan County. By 1953, it became the New 5th District. The area was split among five townships between 1954 and 1958. It was part of the Changgou People’s Commune. Later, it became Nan Shangle People’s Commune. It evolved into Nan Shangle Township in 1983. By 1995, it was Nan Shangle Town. Finally, in 2001, it became Dashiwo Town.

Dashiwo covered 90.81 square kilometers. The 2020 census recorded a population of 31,000. This gives it a density of 340 people per square kilometer. Dashiwo has 24 villages. These include Wangjiamo, Caizhuang, and Xiatan. Others are Zhengjiamo, Tudi, and Zhenjiangying. Tazhao, Nanshangle, and Beishangle are also there. You’ll find Nanhe, Huinanzhuang, and Guangrunzhuang. Xinzhuang, Shiwo, and Banbidian add to the mix. Dushu, Yanshang, and Xiaying are also part of Dashiwo. Rounding it out are Gaozhuang, Qianshimen, and Houshimen. Don’t forget Xiazhuang, Sancha, and Shuitou.

Dashiwo is known for its marble. This stone is part of Beijing’s Forbidden City. The large stone carving behind the Hall of Preserving Harmony comes from Dashiwo. This carving features nine coiled dragons. It symbolizes the emperor’s power. The stone traveled to the Forbidden City in winter. Workers poured water on the road to create ice. They then dragged the stone across this icy path.

Today, Dashiwo is a blend of history. It is a mix of culture and community. The Green Water Park is on the east side of town. This park offers a green space for relaxation. Dashiwo offers glimpses into China’s past. It provides stones for China’s future.
