Envision a soldier frozen mid-charge. That’s the powerful image that defines the Monumentul Eroilor Căzuți în Primul și Al Doilea Război Mondial. This monument stands as a solemn tribute to the heroes who fell during the World Wars. It is also known as “Statuia din Sălăjan”.

The Monumentul Eroilor Căzuți is located at the intersection of Bulevardul Theodor Pallady and Bulevardul Nicolae Grigorescu. This placement ensures it is a visible reminder within the city.

Let’s examine the monument’s structure. At its base is a cubic plinth about one meter wide. Above this is a smaller, parallelepiped socle. Both are constructed from concrete and faced with marble. Atop this base stands the bronze statue of a soldier. He is depicted in a dynamic attack pose. The front of the smaller socle features a bronze bas-relief. It shows a scene of hand-to-hand combat. The other three sides bear plaques. These plaques are inscribed with the names of heroes. They are dedicated to those “who fell for democracy and the freedom of the people”.

The Monumentul Eroilor Căzuți was erected in 1932. Constantin M. Brânzoi, the mayor of Dudești-Cioplea, championed its construction. The sculptor Spiridon Georgescu created this work.

Interestingly, the names inscribed are those of Orthodox heroes from Dudești. A separate, smaller monument exists in the Catholic cemetery. It honors the Catholic heroes from Cioplea. The Monumentul Eroilor Căzuți în Primul și Al Doilea Război Mondial is more than just a statue. It’s a place of remembrance. It is also a testament to the sacrifices made for Romania’s freedom. It is a designated historical monument. Its code is LMI B-III-m-B-20018. As you stand here take a moment to appreciate the history. Reflect on the bravery it represents.
