What if I told you Shekinah Glory Christian Church has a story rooted in helping refugees? It all began with a wave of families arriving from Bhutan. They had spent years in Nepal. Around 2008 and 2009, these families started coming to the US. Rochester NY opened its doors to them.
These Bhutanese refugees had many needs. They needed physical and spiritual support. Organizations like Catholic Family Center aided with housing and schooling. But the refugees needed more. They needed enlightenment in their hearts. They needed salvation through Jesus Christ.
Adjusting to a new country was hard. These families adopted a new culture. They also embraced the religion of the land. This created opportunities for Nepali and Bhutanese Christian churches. Nepali Community Bible Church was one of the first.
On October 17 2010, a joint worship service happened. It was with First Assembly of God Church. The location was 45 Jones Ave in Rochester NY. The following Sunday regular morning services began. They were held in the church basement.
Pastor Lal felt it was time to name the church. He consulted with the congregation. They chose Nepali Community Bible Church or NCBC. Nepali Community reflected its members. Bible Church showed its independent belief.
The congregation approved the name. Then a bank account was opened. Pastor Gulshan Lal and Mr Puspa Biswa registered the church. They went to City Hall in Downtown Rochester. The church became a religious entity with the city. Later it got legally registered with New York State.
On February 6 2011, the first board of deacons formed. Mr Harka Biswa became the Chairman. Mr Rikudhan Biswa was the Secretary. Mr Puspa Biswa served as Treasurer. Mr Tek Bahadur Biswa Mr Padam Biswa and Mr Dinesh Lamdage were members.
In 2014, Pastor Lal recommended Pastor Puspa as his successor. The board approved his recommendation. On February 2 2014, the congregation elected Pastor Puspa Biswa. He became their Senior Pastor. For Pastor Gulshan Lal his mission was complete. He handed over the church to the Nepalese people.

In 2019, the administrative board changed the church’s name. It officially became Shekinah Glory Church. Shekinah Glory Christian Church continues to serve its community. It stands as a testament to faith and perseverance.
