Wow What a collection.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia MOCA GA stands before you. A beacon of modern art in the heart of Atlanta. This isn’t just a museum. It’s a testament to Georgia’s rich artistic heritage. It’s a place where the past present and future of art collide.

MOCA GA opened its doors in 2000. It was co-founded by David S Golden and Annette Cone-Skelton. Their vision was bold. They wanted a museum dedicated to showcasing the work of contemporary Georgia artists. Before MOCA GA there was no major institution dedicated to art created since World War II by Georgia’s artists. This museum filled a significant gap in Atlanta’s art scene.

The museum started with a substantial donation. The collection of CGR Advisors a real estate advisory company formed the core of MOCA GA’s initial holdings. Mr Golden’s personal collection was added to this. Together they housed over 250 works from 110 Georgia artists. Paintings sculptures photography and installations were all included.

The museum has moved a few times. It needed more space for its growing collection. The museum finally found a permanent home in 2007 at 75 Bennett Street. Today MOCA GA boasts a collection of over 1300 works of art. It continues to grow by 50 to 100 pieces every year. The museum also hosts an average of 15 exhibitions annually.

MOCA GA is more than a repository of art. It’s a community hub. It fosters interaction between artists and the public. The museum hosts artist talks and tours. It provides educational programs and resources. MOCA GA even participates in outreach programs such as Caf MOCA. This helps connect high school students with established artists.

MOCA GA has collaborated with other institutions. In a notable instance the High Museum of Art transferred 21 artworks and 700 publications to MOCA GA. This strengthened both institutions’ collections.

Explore the MOCA GA. Discover the dynamic innovative and challenging art within. Experience the legacy of Georgia’s artistic talent. Remember this museum is not just a place to see art. It’s a place to feel Georgia’s creative pulse.
