Did you know that Pak Kret’s history stretches back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom. This city in Nonthaburi province has a captivating story. We are standing on the edge of Pak Kret. It is ready to reveal its secrets.

Pak Kret lies on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. This location is key to its past and present. In the early 18th century, a significant event shaped Pak Kret. Between 1721 and 1722, a canal was dug to bypass a bend in the Chao Phraya. This created Ko Kret Island. The settlements near this new waterway became known as Ban Tret Noi and Ban Pak Tret Noi. These names mean village on the lesser bypass and village on the mouth of the lesser bypass.

Ethnic Mon communities settled here from the Ayutthaya period into the early Rattanakosin era. These communities have deeply influenced the area. Their cultural heritage is still visible today.

Pak Kret officially became a sanitation district in 1955. This marked a step towards its development. In 1992, it was incorporated as a subdistrict municipality. It later gained town status in 1996 and finally city status in 2000. This rapid growth mirrors Bangkok’s expansion. Rice paddies and orchards gave way to housing estates.

Today, Pak Kret is a bustling city. It had a registered population of over 190000 in 2019. Despite its growth, Pak Kret retains its unique character. The city center also known as Pak Kret Market. It is located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya. It is across from Ko Kret.

Two major roads intersect here. Chaeng Watthana Road connects to Bangkok. Tiwanon Road links Pak Kret to Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi. These roads make Pak Kret a transportation hub.

Muang Thong Thani is the largest housing estate in Pak Kret. It houses Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and Impact. Impact is a large exhibition center complex. Srinagarindra Park and CentralPlaza Chaengwattana are also located within the city.

Pak Kret offers a blend of history, culture, and modern development. Its story reflects Thailand’s dynamic evolution. From its origins as small riverside settlements to its current status as a thriving city. Pak Kret continues to evolve. Its past is always present shaping its identity. Take a moment to appreciate the blend of old and new that defines Pak Kret.
