“School days, school days, dear old golden rule days,” hummed an elderly gentleman passing Amagasaki Shiritsu Nanamatsu Elementary School. He paused, a nostalgic smile softening his face. This very spot held decades of memories for him. He attended Nanamatsu Elementary himself, back when it was brand new. Amagasaki Shiritsu Nanamatsu Elementary School first opened its doors in April 1954. It originally operated within the grounds of Mizudo Elementary School. By September of that same year, it moved to its current location here on Minami-Nanamatsu-cho. The official opening ceremony took place on October 1st, 1954. This date is still celebrated as the school’s anniversary. He recalled the excitement of those early days. The crisp new uniforms, the smell of fresh paint, and the promise of learning and friendship filled the air. Nanamatsu Elementary has witnessed generations of children grow and learn. Even now, in 2024, over 400 students fill its classrooms, their laughter echoing through the halls. He remembered his teachers, strict but kind. They instilled in him not only knowledge but also a love for learning that lasted a lifetime. Most of his classmates continued on to Amagasaki Municipal Hibi Junior High School. Some, like him, chose different paths, attending private institutions. The wind rustled the leaves of the nearby trees, echoing the gentle breeze that used to sway him on sleepy afternoons during class. He looked up at the sky, a vibrant blue canvas dotted with fluffy white clouds, much like the ones he used to daydream under during recess. Nanamatsu Elementary School was more than just bricks and mortar. It was a place of growth, a cornerstone of the community, a repository of shared memories. And as he walked away, the faint melody of the school song still danced in his heart, a timeless reminder of his childhood days.
