The school’s Sundevil Stadium is a landmark in itself. Originally designed in 1971 it opened in 1977 with a capacity of 6000. The Sundevils football team’s successes in the 1980s and 90s led to a major renovation. The stadium now seats 11000 making it the largest on-campus high school stadium in California. It’s not just football either. Sundevil Stadium hosts soccer lacrosse track and field events and even the annual Mt Carmel Tournament of Bands.
Beyond athletics Mount Carmel’s instrumental music program shines. The school’s band and orchestra have earned two Grammy awards an incredible feat for a high school. The marching band’s appearances in movies like Little Nikita and the Fiesta Bowl are further testaments to its talent and prestige. The Tournament of Roses Parade has also featured the marching band multiple times.
