Can a church be born in a basement? For Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, the answer is a resounding yes. In November 1984, the seeds of faith were sown in the basement of Reverend Dr. Frank Robinson Jr.’s home on Forrer Street. This humble beginning, with a congregation composed of family members, marked the birth of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church wasn’t content to stay in a basement. In January 1985, the church officially organized at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Robinson elected as its first and only pastor. Just a few months later, in July 1985, the congregation found its first dedicated home, a storefront on Puritan Avenue. Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church continued to grow and thrive. The church eventually outgrew its storefront location. In April 1994, they moved to their current location on Rosa Parks Boulevard. Reverend Robinson has been instrumental in the church’s journey. His dedication to serving God began in December 1979, when he preached his trial sermon and was licensed. He was ordained in January 1983. Rev. Robinson’s commitment to education is evident in his impressive credentials. He holds an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Union Baptist Seminary School of Theology, graduated from Southern Baptist Seminary, attended William Tyndale College, and became a Certified Dean from the DCEAC. He is deeply involved in the community, serving in various leadership roles and affiliated with organizations like the Baptist Pastor’s Fellowship of Detroit and the Westside Ministers Alliance. Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church stands as a testament to the power of faith and community. From a basement to a bustling church, its journey reflects the dedication of its pastor and its congregation. It embodies the mission to bring people to Jesus, nurturing their growth and equipping them for ministry in the world.
