Seeking solace and community? Look no further than Englewood Bible Church. This former house of worship, located at 3190 S. Grant St., has a rich history. Englewood Bible Church served the community for many years. It offered a place of worship and fellowship. It eventually became The Hub at Movement 5280. This homeless ministry opened in July 2023. The transition wasn’t without its challenges. Neighbors voiced concerns about increased activity around the building. Issues arose with people sleeping outside and alleged drug use. Movement 5280 worked to address these concerns through a Good Neighbor Agreement. This agreement facilitated communication and collaboration with the community. It also sparked a mediation process involving monthly meetings. Movement 5280 faced financial difficulties in 2024. Loss of grant funding led to staff reductions and impacted operations. Despite these hurdles, Movement 5280 continued its mission. It even started offering weather shelter services. This provided overnight shelter, food, and case management support. The organization also pursued new funding opportunities. One such opportunity was a $1.5 million grant for Corey’s House. This transitional housing initiative is still in development. Englewood Bible Church’s transformation into The Hub reflects the complex issue of homelessness. It highlights the importance of community engagement and the ongoing efforts to address this challenge.
