Kampung Datuk Keramat was once known as Tangga Cina. Now locals simply call it Keramat. The area sits northeast of downtown Kuala Lumpur. It borders Ampang in Selangor. The Klang River acts as a natural divider between Keramat and Ampang.

Keramat has traditionally been a Malay majority area along with Kampung Baru. It is designated as a Malay reserve area. This cemetery carries the name of Kampung Datuk Keramat.

Kampung Datuk Keramat owes its name to two venerated tombs once located here. One belonged to Haji Ali a Bugis immigrant. His tomb gained renown as a Datuk Keramat. Veneration of this tomb ceased in the 1990s. The other tomb belonged to Sheikh Taih also known as To’ Janggut. He was a pious Sumatran immigrant.
