The cornerstone whispers a story. It speaks of 1928 the year construction of Église Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire began. This beautiful church stands proudly in Montreal’s Villeray neighbourhood. It’s more than just a place of worship. It’s a testament to faith community and perseverance.

Église Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire isn’t the first church on this site. A previous structure built in 1900 preceded it. This one however boasts a striking Latin cross design. Its choir extends outward culminating in a semicircular apse. The building’s foundation and crypt are even older dating back to 1917.

Imagine the artisans at work. Bela Zoltvany’s sculptures grace the interior. Guido Nincheri and Vincenzo Poggi’s stained glass windows bathe the space in brilliant light. Nincheri also painted the vaulted ceiling of the choir a breathtaking masterpiece. A magnificent Casavant organ with four keyboards 45 stops and 3485 pipes was installed in 1932. Its rich tones fill the church during services.

In 1946 five bells cast by the renowned Paccard foundry in Annecy-le-Vieux France were added to the church’s towers. Their melodious chimes call worshippers to prayer. Their sound carries across the neighbourhood a comforting presence. Mgr Paul Bruchési Archbishop of Montreal canonically erected the parish on September 18 1905. The church’s consecration followed much later on October 7 1984 by Paul Grégoire.

Beyond the stunning architecture and craftsmanship Église Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire is a living community hub. It serves a French-speaking congregation. Weekly masses and Friday evening adoration services are held there. This church serves as a reminder of the enduring spirit of Montreal’s Catholic community.

It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place of solace and celebration. It’s a place where faith history and art converge. Here you’ve experienced the enduring beauty of Église Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire.
