In 1999, a monumental move took place right here at the 中央广播电视总台复兴门办公区. Imagine seven entire broadcast frequencies relocating, all in a single, swift operation. This feat set a record in China, a testament to the scale and ambition of the 中央广播电视总台复兴门办公区. Originally known as the Central People’s Broadcasting Station Office Building, the 中央广播电视总台复兴门办公区 stands as a significant structure in Beijing’s Xicheng District. This building, encompassing approximately 50,000 square meters, has been the home of China Central Television’s operations. The story of the 中央广播电视总台复兴门办公区 begins in December 1992, with the groundbreaking ceremony. By the end of 1994, the main structure was complete. In July 1998, the building was ready and operations began. The full transition, however, happened in February 1999. That’s when the impressive relocation of the seven broadcast frequencies took place. This building has not only housed CCTV but also the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, bringing together key players in China’s media landscape under one roof. In 2018, as part of a significant restructuring, the Central People’s Broadcasting Station merged with China Central Television to form the China Media Group (CMG). While the internal name remained, the external name officially changed to “Voice of China,” reflecting its national significance. This restructuring also led to the renaming of the building to its current name, the 中央广播电视总台复兴门办公区, marking a new chapter in its history. The building continues to play a vital role in Chinese broadcasting, standing as a symbol of the nation’s powerful media presence.
